Reveling in the myriad formats & facets of YA Lit!
ALAN 2021, November 22 & 23, 2021
Breakout Session Proposal Form
Due Feb 17, 2021
For this year’s ALAN Workshop, we want to focus on interactive sessions that share practical and unique ideas for teaching with young adult literature. We hope participants will walk away feeling well-versed in strategies for exploring multifarious YA texts with students.
As many teachers lack the resources to fund class sets of new books each year, especially helpful would be to highlight short pieces from YA texts, including short stories, nonfiction chapters, graphic novel excerpts, verse novels poems, fiction passages, etc.
We value books and presentations that feature diverse perspectives and insist that all breakout sessions be interactive.
We are also looking for presentations that feature first-time attendees; please consider inviting new colleagues to share their ideas & experience the magic of ALAN.
Note: because authors are the focus of the ALAN workshop, we are reserving the breakout sessions ONLY for teachers, librarians, university educators, publishers, and others who are not YA authors.
- Breakout sessions will be 50 minutes in length.
- All applicants must be members of ALAN (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English). You can join or renew your membership here.
- Electronic submissions are due no later than midnight (EST) on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 and should be sent to: firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “ALAN Breakout Proposal.” Please email submission as a Google document with viewing permissions on if possible; a word document or PDF otherwise.
